Reliable Water System Coming to New Essau, The Gambia

CURRENT PROJECT, THE GAMBIA

The Rotary Foundation has approved a $70,000 Global Grant!

The Rotary Foundation has approved a $70,000 Global Grant to establish a reliable water system for the town of New Essau in The Gambia’s Northbank region.

This important project will include:

  • Solar panels, tank, and tower
  • A borehole with submersible pump
  • 35 community water taps

Impact:

  • More than 8,000 people across 120 compounds will gain access to safe, clean drinking water.
  • Domestic animals will also benefit from the new system.
  • The project is especially meaningful as the village is led by a female Akala (Mayor), which is rare and inspiring in the country.

The grant was submitted by the Rotary Club of Gainesville-Haymarket and is supported by 24 Rotary Clubs in District 7610 through the Strategic Water Alliance (SWA).

Together, we are building healthier, stronger communities.
